EL MONTE UNIFIED HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT
Renovating and expanding a utilitarian modernist campus, the master plan re-shaped moribund spaces between buildings to become socially activated quadrangles, squares, and courtyards. Existing concrete-frame buildings were sustainably and minimally renovated, stripping them down to their original structure.
New classroom buildings also brightened original modernist intentions with a lightweight statement of mass, structure, and tone.
